Honeypot Plugin
Tired of spam mail? Tired of crap in you inbox? Well, although I can’t help you with tidying it, you have help identify spammers. this plugin for WordPress allows you to set up a honeypot for spammers and bots to harvest and start sending crap to. The following section outlines the steps that should be followed prior to installation of the plugin.
Sign-up for a honeypot
You need to point people at a honeypot, that you have installed on your site. You should go to the Projct Honeypot Website and register for one, its free.
Plug-in installation and activation
First, you should review the supporting configuration section above.
Unzip the plug-in into your wp-content/plugins directory. In your plug-ins admin panel you should enable the plug-in. Once enabled, there should be an Honeypot tab on your options panel.
Parameter explanation
The following section outlines the parameters used in the plug-in.
Honeypot URL
this is the full URL to your honeypot including the page name, for example if you have set up an index.php in your honeypot configuration, you still need to add it to the URL: http://mysite.com/honey/index.php.
Honeypot String
This is used to put some context to your link on the bottom of your pages. While you should never see the text or any reference to the honeypot as part of this plugin, you should still specify some txt so spammers think it is a proper link. try avoiding things like “Project Honeypot”
